High pressrure and high temperature experiments

We aim to clarify the structure and dynamics of Earth's and planetary deep interior with apparatus of highpressure and temperature experiment.

High Pressure Apparatus

1. DACs (Diamond Anvil Cells)
The Diamond Anvil Cells with double laser heating system can produce pressure in excess of 100GPa (1Mbar) and temprature in excess 3000K.

Diamonds are used as anvils because of these hardness. Moreover, many radiations including light and X-ray can permeate through the diamonds because they are clear. Therefore, we can observe "in-situ" samples in the cell.

In-situ experiments under high-pressure and high-temperature are conducted using synchorotoron X-ray radiation at SPring-8.

SPring-8 BL10XU Beamline
The high-pressure and high-temperature "in-situ" X-ray diffraction study are done at SPring-8 BL10XU "the Extremely Dense State" beamline using the high brilliance X-rays from the in-vacuum type undurater and LH-DAC (laser heated diamond anvil cell) high-pressure apparatus. Because of high-flux and high resolution beam characteristic, the X-ray beam can be collimated to less than 20-mm and realize to observe very small spot of the samples under ultra-high pressure. Double-sided laser heated DAC system is installed for ultra-high pressure and temperature experiment.

We conduct many studies under the conditions of ultra-high pressure (over 1Mbar) and high tepmerature (over 3000K) to understand Earth's deep interior such as lower mantle and core using these systems.

2. Multi-anvil press & piston cylinder high-pressure apparatus
We also use multi-anvil presses and piston cylinders installed at "Magma Factory @ Takahashi Laboratory" for high-pressure experiments.
